I work with geographic data and web maps to connect places, routes, photographs, panoramas and descriptions. The map gives spatial context to the material and provides another way to explore it.
Start with the records
A useful map depends on the information behind it: coordinates, names, categories, descriptions and sources. Organising those records is part of the work, alongside deciding what to show and how people will find it.
Connect the map to the project
A point can lead to a place description, a panorama or a photographic record. Routes can provide context for a sequence of locations. The interface and data structure depend on the purpose of the application and the material available.
My existing work includes Leaflet and ArcGIS applications and connections to WordPress content. The Katla development note describes one earlier map-to-panorama implementation.
Examples
The complete projects are linked below. To discuss a map, describe the area, the records you have and how you want to use them.
